Many of the clients that I work with have this deep sense or need to be perfect. Where does this need for perfection come from? Did a parent only love you when you excelled? Did kids tease you because you were different from the masses? Did staying perfectly behaved and excelling academically or athletically, keep a sense of calm in your somewhat chaotic home life? Was there someone that you just could not please? This is how the need for perfection develops.
There is no “perfect”. I urge people not to beat themselves up when they make what they consider to be a mistake. Its okay, we all make mistakes and that’s how we learn. We are so kind to others yet the need to be perfect looms over many of us. How about we set a goal of learning to be okay with being “imperfect”!
