Start A Gratitude Journal and Feel More Positive About Your Life

Keep a gratitude journal to view your life in a more positive way

I am grateful for…

By Ilissa Banhazl, MFT-

Many times I find that we focus more on the negative and difficult things in our life. Doing that can make you feel depressed and unhappy. We feel what we think!

I suggest that you start a Gratitude Journal and change your perspective about your life. Every evening before you go to bed write 3 to 5 things that you feel grateful for on that particular day. It could be something like, I enjoyed a wonderful meal with friends today, I have my health or my spouse was very helpful today. It can be anything big or small.

At first it may seem like you have nothing to be grateful for but as each night passes you will be surprised at how many things you are grateful for. I always suggest keeping a notebook and pen next to your bed. Try keeping the journal going for at least a month. I’m pretty sure you will feel different about your life by then. You will see your life in a more positive way and this will elevate your mood and make you feel happy.

This is a wonderful exercise to do with your kids. Have them write in their Gratitude Journal nightly as well. You can even do it together. Sometimes it’s nice to have them decorate their journal to personalize it. Keeping a Gratitude Journal will make your child more positive in general. What a great lesson!

Let me know if your attitude changes after a month. You can email me at ilissa@ilissabanhazlmft.com or leave a comment.

Do you need help feeling more positive about your situation?
