Issues to Consider When in a Lesbian Relationship: 4 Ways Counseling Can Support You & Your Partner, Ilissa Banhazl, MFT, La Verne, CA

Lesbian counseling, same sex counseling

What issues are you dealing with as a couple?

The every day activities and routines of any lesbian or same gender couple is no different then any heterosexual couple. However, living in communities and a society at large that does not support this kind of couple, forces these couples to deal with issues that heterosexual couples do not need to address.

Being in a relationship is difficult enough at times without having outside pressures and limitations added into the mix.

Here are 4 ways that counseling can help you if you are in or are considering a lesbian/same gender relationship:

1. Become aware of your feelings and beliefs and gain an understanding of the choices you have made so far

2. Learn how to communicate to your partner about outside pressures in order to safeguard your relationship

3. Learn more effective ways to communicate with family, friends and co-workers

4. Reprocess difficult wounds of coming out or address the idea of telling loved ones your truth now

I am linking you to an article that I believe takes an in-depth look at some of the unique challenges lesbian couples can face today. Note that the article was written in 2011 so the numbers have increased. Because the states are starting to recognize the right of same sex couples to marry the more these couples are searching out counseling for their relationship issues.
